The sanctuary from the back pews

Life events

Baptisms, weddings and memorial services

The sanctuary has held the big days of Cedar Rapids families since 1928. You do not have to be a member for yours to be here.

Baptisms

We baptize children and adults, usually during Sunday worship so the congregation can make its promises too. Talk with Rev. Melanie Van Weelden about a date.

Weddings

Our Senior Minister and organist conduct weddings in the sanctuary, which seats 250, or the chapel, which seats 60, and a wedding coordinator from the church helps with the rehearsal and the day itself. Other ordained people may co-officiate at the Senior Minister's invitation. Couples meet with the minister for planning sessions and with the organist at least two months ahead. Fellowship Hall is available for a reception of up to 120.

Fees, from the 2025 wedding packet: minister $300 for members and $500 for non-members, organist $200, wedding coordinator $200, custodian $100, and a $500 damage deposit returned the week after. Non-members also pay to use the space: sanctuary $1,000, chapel $300, Fellowship Hall and kitchen $300, parlor $100. Non-member fees apply to anyone who has been a member for less than two years.

Memorial services

When someone dies, the church is here for the service, the reception and the days around them. The form below gives the office what it needs to begin planning; call (319) 362-1926 if you would rather talk first.

Using the building

Community groups are welcome to use the building and grounds. The application below covers rooms, dates and the agreement.

The service lasts about an hour, there is a staffed nursery downstairs, and coffee waits in Fellowship Hall afterward. Can't get here? The service is live on YouTube and Facebook every week.
